Biographical Information[edit]

In 1922, Tilly Walker hit 37 home runs while playing for the Philadelphia Athletics. He was only the third player to hit at least 30 home runs in one season: he followed Babe Ruth and Ken Williams, and closely preceded Rogers Hornsby. owever, Walker was already 34 years old at the time, and the live ball era came too late for him to take full advantage of the new conditions: he only played half a season after his big homer year. Still, he had led the American League in homers in 1918, with 11, and hit 17 in 1920 and 22 in 1921.
