Biographical Information

Tony Rego broke in during the middle of the 1924 season with the St. Louis Browns and had 59 at-bats. The next year, 1925, he got 32 at-bats for the Browns and hit .406. Years later, he caught 80 games (appearing in 86 total) for the 1932 Tulsa Oilers who went 98-48 in the Western League. He had no home runs but 19 doubles.

He was the only major leaguer born on Maui in Hawaii until Shane Victorino came along in 2003. He is remembered on Shane Victorino's home page.

He was involved in a strange play in 1924, when umpire Brick Owens made him bat out of order and the league upheld the Browns' protest. Source: "Baseball's Greatest Season, 1924".

He caught for the San Francisco Seals in 1927. His photo appears in the book "San Francisco Seals" by Jacobs and McGuire.

He was a World War I veteran.
