Biographical Information[edit]
Tyler Flowers made his major league debut in 2009, appearing in 10 games.
Flowers was born in Roswell, GA and attended high school in Marietta, GA. He was drafted in the 33rd round in the 2005 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves and signed by scout Al Goetz.
A big man at 6' 4" and 245 lbs., he played catcher and first base in the minors. In his four years in the minors (2006-2009) he posted a respectable batting line of .293/.406/.495.
Tyler made his major league debut on September 3, 2009 with the Chicago White Sox, who had acquired him in a trade with the Braves after the 2008 season. He hit .188 but had an OBP of .350.
During spring training in 2010, Flowers was touted as the possible replacement for A.J. Pierzynski when A.J.'s contract was due up in 2011. Flowers had worked on his defense and wanted to work more on his offense with the White Sox AAA affiliate, the Charlotte Knights. However, it took him until the 2013 to become Chicago's regular backstop.
Through 2009 he is one of five major leaguers who have had the last name "Flowers". Other than Tyler, though, the most recent one (Ben Flowers) finished up in 1956.
