Biographical Information

Yuan-Chia Chen was an outfielder for the Taiwan national team and in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. To confuse matters, he was a teammate of similarly named Chih-Yuan Chen, also an outfielder, on the national team.

Chen played in the 1995 World Youth Championship, 1997 World Junior Championship and hit .455 in the latter event. In the 1999 Intercontinental Cup, he batted .294/.333/.471 as Taiwan's left fielder. He joined Yobal Dueñas and Claudio Liverziani on the All-Tournament outfield. He was just 4 for 24 with a walk in the 2001 World Port Tournament and was caught stealing in both of his attempts. He also played in the 2001 Asian Championship, helping Taiwan win Gold. He was named to the tournament All-Star outfield alongside Yong-taik Park and Takashi Kita.

The Taitung County native was 6 for 19 with 2 doubles and 2 walks in the 2002 Haarlem Baseball Week. In the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, the Taiwan left fielder was 3 for 10 with a double. He went only 1 for 22 with 4 walks as his country's worst performer in the 2002 World University Championship. Chen was drafted by the Macoto Cobras in the 5th round of the 2003 CPBL Draft. He debuted in the CPBL in 2004, hitting .252/.270/.432. In 2005, he batted .245/.291/.324. The next year, he only was 2 for 23. He batted .233/.250/.346 in the 2007 CPBL season. The team became the dMedia T-Rex in 2008 and Chen hit .261/.292/.364. After the season ended, he was blacklisted along with Ke-Fan Chen and Cory Bailey for alleged game-fixing. The T-Rex collapsed during the scandal.
