Biographical Information[edit]
Yuichiro Utagawa pitched for Mitsubishi Motors Okazaki in the industrial leagues after college. He was on the Japanese national team preliminary roster for the 2010 Asian Games but did not make the final cut. In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he tied Tomoyuki Kaida for the Japanese lead with four games pitched. He allowed no runs and two hits while fanning three. He saw brief action against Team USA (retiring Matt Clark), Panama (retiring Fernando Seguignol) and the champion Dutch national team (allowing a run-scoring double to Curt Smith before retiring Sharlon Schoop and Bryan Engelhardt). He saw a three-inning outing against Puerto Rico, allowing no runs against a team with 3 MLB veterans in the lineup.
