Biographical Information

Outfielder Ziggy Sears played in the minor leagues from 1913 to 1928, the last eleven years in the Texas League, primarily with the Fort Worth Panthers. On May 19, 1925, he drove in 11 runs in a game.

After his playing days, Sears became a Texas League umpire in 1929 and was a National League umpire from 1934 to 1945. He worked in the World Series in 1938 and 1944.

He returned to umpiring in the minor leagues after his major league stint, working in the Pacific Coast League in 1946, the Sooner State League in 1949 and the Texas League in 1950-1951. He also was a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1947-1948.

His son Ken Sears played in the majors. Ziggy Sears died of a heart attack in Houston, TX in 1956.
